The great Heist

Alright - mum says she's gotten quite a few questions about how we met the Heist boys - here's my best attempt at explaining that one.
We were near Clingman's Dome in the Smoky Mountains - and Loz, Pinkfire and I were just settling into a shelter there, one with high bear alerts and a cage across the front of it and everything. Dusty and Dorian were out for their first of five nights in the Smoky's but they were NOT on the AT at all. They were doing a five day loop of other trails, but they heard it was supposed to rain the first night so they decided to go .5 miles off their trail and stay in a shelter on the AT. It was totally random, the only night they were planning to be in a shelter at all, and the only time they even came close to the AT. Talk about surprise when you run into two guys in the middle of the Smoky Mountains that you went to high school with. It was unreal, but a lot of fun none-the-less. Hope that clears up a little of the confusion.
It's Saturday morning here in Damascus, VA - there is a little farmer's market and bake sale going on in the parking lot next door - blueberries for breakfast? Sounds like a treat to me. I'm guessing we'll only do 9 miles tonight, since we probably won't drag ourselves from town till noonish.. but we'll see. Something to look forward to this coming week: Partnership Shelter - you can order pizza from less than a mile away and get it delivered to the shelter! Sweetness.
Mum - I got the disk at Karina's, it's in the mail, on the way home. There's only 3 new pictures since then - so I'll just wait till Pearisburg to send you that one. Oh, for the next trail mix, Loz can't eat red M&M's - red dye 40 - so if you could use another color, that'd be awesome.
Pinkfire's family - he got PLENTY of guitar playing in last night too - very talented, and he seemed much happier with that instrument in his hands.
Loz's mom - her only complaint this morning was her ankle... so I guess that's a good sign for the knees.
I don't know about the other two, but I for one am ready to return to the trail. This town stuff is nice.. but too much of a good thing makes me not appriciate it enough. Take me home... country roads... to the place... where I belong! (not neccisarily WV, just the mountains)
-ps- my sister is in NC so I think my mum will try to type stuff up when she gets it, but have fun on vacation Erin!
adieu!

To Pinkfire

Reminder, I'll be heading to NJ Monday with g-ma for the last leg of our long journey. Please call me on cell. Dad will be home

Ladies, many thanks again for all the pictures and info. I can't begin to tell you how much this means to us .

Lauren, I won't have access to a computer for almost two weeks so first of all, Happy Birthday and many, many more. What an awesome way to celebrate the day by doing something you really love!

Greg, our hearts are with you . Enjoy every minute of this wonderful experience.

One of the worst things as you get older is to look back and regret the things you wished you had done. Cheers to the three of you and all the other hikers who are doing what you wanted.

Bless and take care - the three of you continue to be safe!

Debbie
