civilization

So tonight, Loz and I got to dress up!! Karina graciously donated some skirts and shirts and *bling bling* for us to sport, and we went out for dinner at "Cheddars" - a southern chain.. so good! We enjoyed our ICE WATER that didn't taste like iodine drops, to the max, and we put those meals away within a matter of minutes, even after all of our junk food eating throughout the day.

Finally, we had the most awesome waiter - he's planning on being a medical missionary in Africa in the near future and we explained to him all about the AT and what *trail magic* is and in return, he introduced us to *cheddar magic*. (in other words, he offered us dessert, which we turned down due to the ice cream cake awaiting us in Karina's freezer, for my birthday, and he said well, if it's your birthday... free hot fudge sundae :) THANK YOU!!!

We narrowly missed the torrential downpours this evening, God is giving us a fantastic natural fireworks display right now though, more lightning than I've seen all month. It's spectacular. We're thankful to be here at Karina's, but a 6 AM departure time is scheduled for the morning, and we're headed back to the mountains. Should be in Damascus by Friday or Saturday - yay for Virginia!!! Adieu mes amies.

Dude!! Did you see that the Cheddars guy commented!! p.s., the comment on the above post is actually from Mary. She likes to steal my identity. Thanks Mary. She also says Happy Birthday. It was totally awesome to have you here for a couple days!!! You have no idea how great you made my weekend. I am glad you got a little taste of civilization even though we now know that reality truly lies on the trail! Love you both! p.s. Thanks for teaching me how to eat to get MORE calories in my diet- in case that should ever come in handy!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! with that bowl of ice cream, and a cake at home, it must have been. I know you're enjoying the "highway to Damascus" 'cause it's about the smoothest walk on the whole trail. by the way- when you get to town, go to the dairy king. $2.40 big milkshakes - they even have pineapple, blueberry and peanut butter. I'll probably still be in town, but if not, happy trails. And mom, hello.
